Pet Therapies in St. Louis, MO
Full Veterinary Pharmacy
Many conditions we diagnose in pets every day need specific medications to properly be treated. This could include antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, or anti-parasite medications, just to name a few. Many of these medications are specific to veterinary medicine and are not available through a human pharmacy. At Arch Animal Hospital, we keep a full stock of pharmaceuticals so that when your four-legged loved one is sick, we can get treatment started immediately.
While we do use some medications from the human medicine world, the dosages are often different. We also use medications from the same category as those in human medicine, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs). However, using human versions of these drugs can often be harmful to dogs and cats.
Therapeutic Light Laser Treatment
Therapeutic Laser Light is a non-invasive therapy useful for many conditions. Laser therapy works by emitting photons that the body converts to cellular energy. This energy increases the speed and quality of tissue repair and decreases inflammation, and provides pain relief.
There are a wide variety of ailments that can be treated with laser therapy. Some of the acute conditions include dermatitis (skin inflammation), otitis (ear inflammation), abscesses, fractures, musculoskeletal injuries, and wounds. These types of ailments may only need one or two laser therapy sessions.
Laser therapy is helpful in treatment protocols for chronic conditions as well. Some of these conditions include osteoarthritis, lick granulomas, lower urinary tract diseases, and periodontal disease. Most conditions require a three-phase treatment plan; induction period, transition period, and maintenance period. Most laser therapy sessions last 20-30 minutes.
